Your logo needs a legit designer.

Crowdsourcing a logo online can seem like an easy, cheap idea. Give dozens of unknown designers a little info, get a bunch of logos back fast and pick one.

This is not the way to design a logo that represents you and your business.

What a Designer Needs to Know

On crowdsourcing sites and low-cost platforms like Fiverr, the designer’s goal is to produce something quickly and move on to the next gig. Their business model is quantity over quality. They do not know you, your market or your competitors. They don’t care about your business.

Before the designers Pear works with create a logo, we need to understand your company. We ask a lot of questions that go well beyond your favorite color. Who are your customers? What makes you different? Where will the logo be used? What does your competition look like? What do you want people to think and feel when they see your logo?

Your answers influence the design.

Why Skilled Design is Important

I met with a prospect who told me, “We spent $25 on this logo.” I had to hold my face. Later, when I looked closely, I could see how terrible it was and thought, “You got took for $25.” I knew that logo would be a challenge to work with because it had so many functional flaws. A bad logo can kill everything you put it on.

A rebranding client showed us piles of logos he “designed” and said, “I want something like this, but not this.”

There were two big problems. First, he’s not a designer and shouldn’t have been wasting his time trying to create the logo himself. Second, he was focused on what the logo should look like instead of why it should look that way.

He skipped the discovery part that Pear uses to pull all of the right ideas and reasons together into a memorable, effective design.

Your logo may represent your company for decades. It will appear on everything from your website and signage to a business card or the side of a truck. It represents you.

Before you go it alone or toss money to an online stranger, ask yourself: “What does this logo need to do?”
